Rise in Fuel Theft and Illegal Trading

Derbyshire Police are warning businesses about an ongoing issue across the county of thieves siphoning fuel from lorries whilst they are parked up on business premises.

This fuel is often taken in containers or barrels and could be stored in sheds or other unsuitable locations.

Storing fuel is very dangerous a carries a significant risk of fire or explosion, which can have an impact on the local community and could also be putting people's lives at risk.

Similarly, there have also been reports of businesses being offered cheap fuel from 'unconventional' sources. Whilst it can be very tempting, in light of the current high cost of fuel, to buy from these sources, businesses are encouraged to report any instances of suspicious fuel trading.

If you have any information about fuel being offered from a suspicious source, or suspect fuel is being stored inappropriately please contact BusinessWatch on 01246 212909 or email info@businesswatch.org.
