The new-style £50 note, featuring the renowned 18th century business partnership of entrepreneur Matthew Boulton and engineer James Watt, enters circulation today - Wednesday 2nd November 2011.
A range of new and enhanced security features have been incorporated into the design of the Boulton and Watt £50 note.

The old-style £50 note featuring Sir John Houblon can still be used until it is withdrawn from circulation. The date for withdrawal will be announced in due course and is usually given with at least three months notice.
Genuine Bank of England banknotes that have been withdrawn from circulation retain their face value and can be exchanged with the Bank of England.
